No 5: Meet Grandma Tanpopo!
The girls arrived at a Wagashi store in the shopping district and meet Hana's grandmother Tanpopo who welcomed the girls for some sweets. Even her personality is similar to Hana. (Guess it runs in the family)
They even help around the store until one of Tanpopo's old friend, Youne claimed that the Dorayaki she made was not good like the older days. Tanpopo immediately chase her off and went to make a new batch but injured her back in the process.
No 4: Tampopo's past.
Tampopo was feeling upset in the hospital which worried Hana until they meet Youne again at her rice store. Youne explained that Hana's late grandfather make all the sweets before Tanpopo took over. Hana has no memories of her grandfather as she was still an infant when he passed away.
Youne even mentioned that Hana's grandfather used to create a special Manju called Hope Manju that was delicious but Tanpopo stop making it after his passing. Hana decided to make Hope Manju although she has no idea how to make it...(Face palm)
No 3: Grandma kicked ass!
A Four in One Henshin scene! |
Homerun! |
Before we get to the sappy stuff, the battle with the Oshimaida was pretty typical but when the Oshimaida threw a projectile at Tampopo's store, she used a giant pan to hit the projectile back to at the Oshimaida.
Cure Yell even helped to deflect another projectile and Tampopo realised that Cure Yell is Hana. Although she will keep her identify a secret for now...
No 2: Hope Manju!
Hana went to her grandfather's altar to find answers and Hug-Tan pointed a notebook on top of the altar. Hana then found the recipe of the Hope Manju and started creating it with her friends.
While making, Hana also learn the love and hard work that her grandmother has put in making the sweets and was determined to get it right.
When Hana finally presented the Hope Manju to Tampopo, she was surprised in tears as she reminisce the times with her husband and how they created the Hope Manju with their hard work. Tampopo admitted that she didn't want to make any Hope Manju as it was too painful to remember her time with her husband.
But now, Hana has showed her that it is okay to cry out the loss and to always cherish the time with Hana's grandfather.
No 1: Thank you, Hana!
I felt ashamed that an older woman has better muscles than me... |
After the battle, Tampopo finally make the proper Hope Manju and Youne praised that this was the exact taste that Tampopo's husband created. Tampopo thank Hana for a new start and Youne even offered to help her. (She even showed her bulk muscles which shocked everyone!)
Hana hoped to see more of her grandmother's reciepes and even offered the Hope Manju to her grandfather's altar...
Although this episode is a filler but it is a pretty good filer especially the moments with Tampopo who is voiced by Forever 17 Inoue Kikuko which I am guessing she finally getting to play granny roles but then she can pretty do any roles she is given.
I can understand how Tampopo is going through after her husband's passing. Although she showed a positive face in front of everyone but deep down, she still felt the loss of her husband which resulted a drop in standard of the sweets.
But the most cruel was her refusal to make any more Hope Manju as it was an original creation that was made with her husband and it represented their love and hard work together. However Hana showed her that it is okay to cry out and overcome grief. (Which I am suggesting that Hana might face a similar trial in the future since she is still conflicted over George's ideals)
Hug-Tan in a Panda Suit! (CUTE times 100000!) |
But seriously, Ruru could secretly have a black hole as a stomach... |
Overall, a sweet episode and the rest of the girls minus Hana didn't do much since the focus is between Hana and Tampopo. Next episode, the girls goes on a world trip on their special plane and is that Hug-Tan in a cute panda and am I thinking that Ruru is actually a glutton? Until then, see you in the next episode!
