Star Twinkle Precure Ep 49 FINAL Review: Onward! Our Imagination!

Hello everyone! This is my Ep 49 review of Star Twinkle Precure and my final thoughts of the series! Happy Chinese New Year to everyone who is celebrating today!

Prunce and his race are taking care of a newly born Fuwa after the final battle as the Star Princesses are waiting patiently for Fuwa to recover.

Meanwhile, Yuni with the help of Aiwan restored her people back to normal and Aiwan apologize for the trouble she caused. Lala's people are also slowly adapting back to using their feet to walk and she came across a little girl who shouted "Kirayaba" and wonder what Hikaru and the others are doing now.

Hikaru, Elena and Madoka are at the riverside as Hikaru drew everyone in her notebook. Suddenly Lala's spaceship landed back again and Fuwa went to the girls' sides. Hikaru was happy to see Lala and Yuni again and Fuwa used her powers to restore their Star Pendant which enable them to communicate again.

Lala explained that a Knot Raider's mask flew into Earth when they returned back after the final battle and they need to find it cause of it's negative energy. The girls split up and Hikaru and Fuwa saw a girl, Nodoka and her pet dog, Latte. Fuwa accidentally spoke which surprise Nodoka and Hikaru quickly make an excuse to leave.

Hikaru and Madoka's father found the Knot Raider mask and Hikaru's father wore it and became a Knot Trigger. The girls transformed and went to battle. A debris nearly hit Fuwa and Prunce when a new Precure appeared- Cure Grace save them.

After restoring Hikaru's father, the energy created a special badge with Fuwa's face on it. Fuwa gave it to Latte and Cure Star recognize that Nodoka is Cure Grace but before they could continue, an alarm rang...

It was Hikaru's alarm clock and she opened her curtains to reveal a rocket and a grown up Hikaru. Elena is now a translator and Madoka is part of the Space Research team. (Her father has become the Prime Minister) Lala, Yuni and Aiwan were reminiscing the old days on Yuni's planet. Lala even told them that the Notraiders found a new planet with the help of the Galactic Alliance.

Hikaru and her crew entered the rocket ship as they prepare to blast off. All the people they knew started counting down and the rocket ship blast to space. Hikaru saw Earth from her window and a bright light appeared and Fuwa's voice make her shed a tear...

This episode is what I kinda of predict as Lala and Yuni will leave them and it will take a lifetime for Hikaru to get on a rocket ship to space to reunite again. For the first half of this episode, I am not sure it did happen or it is just Hikaru's dream. We probably have to wait for the Team up movie to see if Team Star Twinkle remember Team Healin Good and to find out if it is canon.

Cure Grace/Nodoka was all right since she sounds like a nice person although I could be wrong and Nodoka might be what majority of Aoki Yuki's anime roles. (Either hyper active or hyper psycho) But I love Latte who is so adorable like a real dog which remind me of Puff from Go Princess.

Final Thoughts: Despite having an all right finale, this season is also a disappointment for me. If you have been following me in this blog, I did explained that I couldn't even do review for the individual episodes as there is really nothing much to review. (Maybe I am having a burnout or something) But furthermore, once they started doing the Twinkle Imagination arc, it really went downhill.

Years ago, fans had wanted a space theme Precure and we finally got one in Star Twinkle. The first half was a treasure hunt to search for the Star Princess pens and it was all right. The only thing was what does the Star Princess pens really does for the girls's attacks? Although we can see some variations like Cure Milky's Leo Lighting and Cure Selene's Sagittarius Arrow but otherwise it is just another beam attack that anyone can do it. The laziest was the other three Cures as it is the same stock footage even with a different Princess pen.

Next was about our main five girls. Among them, I find Lala, Elena and Yuni to be the most interesting. Lala came from a planet where being 14 years old mean she is a grown up and her life was dictated by a mother computer who operate on logic and not human emotions. So when she came to Earth, she was surprised of Earth's culture and learn how to be independent and not rely on technology all the time. True enough, when the girls went to her home planet, she has to get everyone to stop relying on technology after Aiwan's sabotage and now everyone learn to live a better life.

Elena is the most mature among the five as she has to juggle her family, her studies and being a Precure at the same time. However she always remind positive and is the mood maker of the team. Being a mixed blood child, she know what is like to be alienated as a child but take the initiative to show there is nothing to fear off. Her best moment was her encounters with Tengu who mock her for being a Hypocrite and Elena also realised that it is okay to let out some steam and empathize those are ridiculed for being different like Tengu. (Among the five girls, she is the most popular to get the most doujins about her followed by Yuni and Lala)

Yuni is also interesting as she started off as an anti-hero. She witnessed her planet being petrified and went on a one cat-girl crusade to find a way to restore her planet. From infiltrating the Knot Raiders as Bakenyan, to super idol Mao and Phantom Thief Blue Cat, Yuni has went through a lot. However she realised she can't do everything on her own and the other girls also restored her trust on others and she was granted to become Cure Cosmos.

Madoka is basically Minami 2.0 who has everything a girl wanted. Good looks, good graces and a good education. However her parents especially her father is a perfectionist who want Madoka to be good in everything. This make her feel the pressure when her father is searching for the Cures and Aliens that has been attacking the city. Finally Madoka also couldn't take it anymore and reveal her identify and her dream to her father and now she walked her own path and became a scientist.

Hikaru is the least interesting character despite being the lead Cure. She might have her moments especially her influences in helping Yuni or trying to get everyone together to unite against Ophiuchus but she is still the same person as she was in the beginning. A girl who recklessly get her way and I don't feel she has changed as a person. Even though she became an astronaut and is now searching the way to find Lala and Yuni, I will like to think that an alternative timeline that a ray of light vaporizer the rocket ship she is in and that is all folks! (Yeah, I am sometime sick in my imagination)

For a show about imagination, there is really nothing imaginative about the show. Fuwa is a Plot device to get everyone going and the so-called Twinkle Imagination is really just the girls finding their true self and does it affect them in battle? Not much really. Even then the girls final battle with Ophiuchus was similar to Kira Kira Precure where they finally used their final form for physical attacks. Why didn't they used it sooner was anyone's guess.

The villains were all right and we do know that they suffered some form of tragedy and expected Ophiuchus was somehow behind it. Ophiuchus is just a villain with trust issues. She is not wrong that people will misuse their imagination for evil but everything has both sides. However Ophiuchus being the odd one decide to do what Thanos does-Wipe out the universe and start all over again. Furthermore, she claimed she will return if the universe become twisted again which again another villain who was spared.

(I get it that not every big bad has to die but how many villains did they spare and wouldn't it to be bad if the world got bad again but then probably another team of Precures will stand up to face the evil again)

Well, this rant has went long enough and overall, Star Twinkle Precure is a disappointment for me as being the last series in the Heisei Era. Will Healin' Good Precure be able to restore my confidence as the first series in the Reiwa Era? Sorry for anyone who waited for my individuals episodes reviews of Star Twinkle every week and not getting it. But thanks for your patience and understanding and hopefully Healin' Good Precure can make a difference. Until then, see you in the next post and Happy Chinese New Year!

  1. I'm not very fond of this season. But I think this episode was really sad. Hikaru was just dreaming! At the beginning of the episode the star princess says that Fuwa will probably never regain her powers back. Then the scene changes and we briefly hear Elena translating the tv message of the rocket launch. They are telling us that they are in the future, where the girls are adult, but suddenly the girls(young) reunite and Fuwa has her power back(?). That's all a dream and Hikaru confirms that while speaking to Madoka prior to the rocket launch. Fuwa never recovered in all those years until the final end.

P.S.: it's funny that Latte was actually a grown up Hikaru's plush on the table... Does this mean that healin good is just a dream?? x'D
