Azur Lane the Animation Ep 4 Review: Cloak and Dagger

Hi Everyone! This is my Azur Lane Episode 4 Review and today the focus is shifted to the Sakura Empire!

Akagi and company have returned to the Sakura Empire where their fellow comrades welcome them back with Nimi and Prinz Eugen as guests.

Meanwhile, Belfast began improving Enterprise's way of living by giving her a hearty breakfast and they later saw the two Eastern Radiance sisters setting up a Panda bun stall and offered their thanks to Enterprise and Belfast for saving them.

While Laffey mentioned that Ayanami should join them for some buns next time, (which cause Javelin to get worried again) Ping Hai and Ting Hai explained to the others that there were Sirens activities near their border as such they went to investigate but they were attacked by a sentient humanoid Siren which got everyone worried about both the Red Axis and the Sirens.

Belfast ensured Enterprise that the Royal Navy was aware of the situation and had already sent someone to monitor the Sakura Empire. (Sheffield and Edinburgh has already infiltrated as Miko hoping to find more intel)

From Left to Right: Kawakaze (A bodyguard for Nagato and Mutsu), Nagato and her sister, Mutsu

After Akagi reported to Nagato about the Black Cube and the Orochi Project, Nagato still has doubts of starting a war against Azur Lane as Kaga predicted to Akagi. But Akagi didn't care and insist that "it" will be very soon.

Best Sakura Empire Girls!

Ayanami was entertaining her three friends- Yukikaze, Yudachi and Shigure who are eager to go to battle but Ayanami still doubts that if fighting was the only way. Meanwhile, Zuikaku met up Heavy Cruiser Takao and after learning what happens to her against Enterprise, advise Zuikaku not to shoulder all the burden and rely more on her comrades.

After Sheffield and Edinburg's cover was almost blown by Destroyer Shiranui, the two maids spotted Repair Ship Akashi accidentally wandered into a cave and found Akagi activating a giant ship using the Black Cube. A sentient Siren named Observer gave Akagi a new Black cube and even teased that "Your reunion is soon."

Akashi realised what was going on but was caught by Observer. She wants to silence Akashi but was stopped by Akagi. Sheffield immediately frees Akashi and Edinburgh caught hold of the Black Cube. The two maids including Akashi ran to the docks with the intruder alarm buzzing everywhere.

Takao intercepted them and Sheffield holds her off. But she was outnumbered when Ayanami also joined in. Edinburgh saw a small boat filled with explosives and immediately drove towards everyone causing an explosion...

Later Kaga lost sight of the two maids and Akashi, however, Akagi was not worried since Azur Lane will "help" them in powering up the Black Cube. Takao and Ayanami returned to base and seeing that her three friends were concerned about her, she too realised that she has to make a choice on which side she should be...

After three episodes of focusing on the Eagle Union and Royal Navy, we finally get to see the other side of the battle and Sakura Empire is indeed a beautiful place. Everyone also behaves similarly to Azur Lane with comrades welcoming back Akagi and company. Ayanami has her friends who looked up to her as a hero.

Takao and Zuikaku (Both of my favourite girls together) having a conversation and Takao being the calm senior to hot blooded Zuikaku was wonderful. We also get to see Nagato which is definitely portrayed as more of a religious leader rather than a commander (like Kancolle's Nagato) Of course, Akagi's motives of working with the Siren and her conversation with Observer also suggested something bad happened to Akagi that she wants to use the power of Sirens to revive someone. (If you play the game, you know who it is)

I agreed that the battle between Sheffield and Takao took a hit in the graphic department but I am actually impressed that Sheffield can hold on her own against Takao since Sheffield is totally outmatched against Takao in terms of firepower. But now with the Black Cube and Akashi (who I enjoyed her antics in the game) who probably realised that Akagi is working with the Sirens is going to cause doubts among the Sakura ships and anything with the word "Orochi" is definitely bad news no matter what how good it could be.

So what will happen next once the intel reached Azur Lane about the Orochi project and Akagi working with the Sirens? Until then, see you in the next post! (If you notice that the ending also change with more people being added into the table)
