Azur Lane the Animation Ep 2 and 3 Review: Enterprise's Fall

I am back and let's continue our review of Azur Lane Episode 2 and 3!

San Diego sucked! (Until her retrofit)

Have a break. Have a Cola!

Ep 2: So after the attack at Azur Lane, the girls were rescued by the Manju Chickens. (Who are basically the support units) Javelin and Laffey make it back ashore while Cleveland noticed that Enterprise wasn't doing so well since her carrier was also damaged but did not go for repair.

Meanwhile, Iron Blood Heavy Cruiser Prinz Eugen appeared in front of Akagi and Kaga and was behaving like her usual carefree attitude towards the two fox girls. Iron Blood Light Destroyer Z23 aka Nimi informed Ayanami that they are moving out to support the Crane Sisters carriers Shoukaku and Zuikaku.

Ayanami asked Nimi why does she like fighting however Nimi just replied they are warships and they are born to fight. The Crane Sisters intercepted Union Carrier Hornet's fleet and they were totally outmatched against the Crane Sisters.

A Half Strength Enterprise, Cleveland, Laffey and Javelin proceed to rescue them as Enterprise was worried about her younger sister Hornet. They arrived in time and Enterprise hold off Zuikaku while the others went to the aid of Hornet's fleet.

Nice Angle!

Prinz Eugen, Nimi and Ayanami all arrived and want to take down the injured girls. Laffey told everyone she will hold them off. At Azur Lane, the Royal Navy fleet (Queen Elizabeth, Hood, Warspite, Edinburgh and Sheffield) has informed the base that help is on the way for Enterprise.

I am just a Passing by Maid!

While Laffey tried to act dumb in front of Nimi and Ayanami, Zuikaku has a hard time against Enterprise until her bow snapped into two and Zuikaku immediately jump at the chance to finish her off however a Maid in White blocked Zuikaku's attack...

Ep 3: In a flashback, Enterprise's eldest sister, Yorktown was resting on her bed as she advised Enterprise to be grateful to the people and the Ocean for giving them life. Enterprise realised she was back in her dorm and the Maid in White introduce herself as Royal Navy Light Cruiser Belfast.

It seems that Belfast managed to surprise Zuikaku during the earlier battle and Prinz Eugen told Zuikaku that Belfast is not to be underestimated. The Royal Navy main fleet has also arrived and the Red Axis retreated. Not before Laffey said goodbye to Ayanami and hope to see her again.

Warning! Ark Royal at Three O' Clock! All Destroyers Hide!

In the present time, Enterprise was not taking care of herself and even rely on rations to gain her strength. Wales and Illustrious discussed with Queen Elizabeth about Enterprise's condition and appointed Belfast to observe her for now. Vestal has also arrived at Azur Lane and was angry that Enterprise's bow was damaged due to her reckless behaviour.

Guess San Diego is just Comic Relief...

The rest of the girls were relaxing at the beach to get some R and R. Belfast brought Unicorn to see Enterprise as Unicorn want to thank her for saving her from Kaga. Although Enterprise claimed it was her duty and could not even understand from Unicorn why everyone claimed the Ocean is beautiful.

A heavy storm appeared but Enterprise was still her moody self. A distress call came to Azur Lane as such, Enterprise, Cleveland, Hammann and Belfast went to look for the distress call. They saw non-operation Sirens ships all over. Enterprise found the distress call - Two Sisters Light Cruisers, Ting Hai and Ping Hai from Eastern Radiance. (The China Navy)

Ting Hai was badly hurt and was unable to move when suddenly one of the Siren ships started moving its turret on them. Enterprise immediately drew it away from the two sisters but she could not fight back since her deck is still damaged. Belfast arrived in time and managed to sink the Siren ship.

Can you bend down a bit more, Belfast?

After the storm cleared and the group were conveying the two sisters, Belfast declared that she has to make Enterprise a better person which surprised the latter...

Well, after surviving a typhoon in Japan last week, I am glad to be back at home and continue doing reviews on my blog. Anyway, we did get some explanation about how the ship girls were created through the Wisdom cubes and the hopes of the people who found it although the anime has yet to show any real humans interacting with the ship girls which probably not at the moment since that will turn the show into a harem/action-comedy immediately.

After two episodes back to back, I can see that Enterprise is suffering from PTSD and sense of guilt since her eldest sister, Yorktown lying in bed is due to her responsibility which probably why she pushed herself so hard that now her bow is snapped into two and her deck is usable.

I actually like the way they make Enterprise to be the main focus since if she is in top condition, the show will end too soon. Instead, Enterprise has to start from scratch with the help of Belfast and the other girls to become the Legendary Ship in History.

Belfast was my first SR ship in the game and she, Prinz Eugen and Laffey basically carried the game till now. Furthermore, Belfast voiced by the wonderful Horie Yui was the right choice as she has the right amount of teasing and badass to make her my first oath (aka wife) in the game.

I also like Prinz Eugen, Shoukau and Zuikaku since they too are wonderful in their own way. Prinz Eugen who is also another tease and her carefree attitude make her a fun character to watch unlike some of her Iron Blood peers who are probably suffering from "Grade Eight Syndrome." Shoukau and Zuikaku are both excellent carriers who are the second-best Sakura Carriers after the fox girls but in the long run, Shoukau and Zuikaku have better endurance.

I also like how Ayanami and Javelin are conflicted on whether they should fight against each other and we can tell Nimi was not serious in shooting Laffey who is probably a troll to everyone since she fell asleep during battle.

The Royal Navy is probably my favourite in terms of style as most of them have a sense of grace and power from each one of them. Warspite for those who do not play the game has the longest range among all the battleships and I am glad that she is in her retrofit form which makes her more powerful than ever. Hood is graceful and calm (Yes, I know what happen to her during the game) and Queen Elizabeth although small was commanding and everyone listens to her. (I hope that King George V will also appear in the anime since KGV is more powerful in her buff skills)

Overall, episode 2 and 3 were great especially the 2nd episode with so many actions among my favourite ships and a beach episode so early in the series which mean more serious plot will appear in the later episodes. We will have to see how Belfast will train Enterprise to be a better person in the next few episodes. Until then, see you in the next post!
