Kira Kira Precure Ala Mode Ep 4: Let's Mix It Up!

Kira Kira to you! This is my review of Kira Kira Precure episode 4 and our three girls actually learned something about cooking and teamwork.

(I am just going to express my thoughts since a lot of you had watched the episode already)

With a first glance, I thought this was a filler episode but rather it is more of character development. After promising to see a friend performing her ballet recital, the three girls decided to make cream puffs for their friend, Mariko.

But the girls realised it is actually pretty hard to make a perfect cream puff as they are pretty delicate to bake. The girls did failed several times and Himari and Aoi gave up, leaving Ichika all disappointment which basically the girls' first trial coming together as Precures.

Given a guess that the three girls only knew each other about a few days doesn't make them best friends forever yet. Ichika is an amateur cook, Himari just come up with theories and Aoi is a rock singer so it is pretty clear that the three girls are not going to success the first time around. But it is also brought up a point that the three girls does not know each other strength and weakness well enough. Doesn't mean you are all Precures does not make you a strong team yet.

Although Mariko did give a pep talk to Ichika about remember the first time you truly enjoy, I find it a bit chessy given that in the end, all the girls have to do is just have fun and doing it correctly to get the perfect cream puff which by the way, I don't remember seeing a cream puff that is shaped like a swan in real life. (If it does, please tell me how you do make the dough rise like that)

This week villain is an another new character, Shukuri which is a pun for Sugar Cream in Japanese. Shukuri goes around town eating all the cream puffs and aimed at the girls' cream puff. He absorbed the cream puffs and became a giant. Although he is tough but after the girls' lessons of working together in the kitchen, the girls combine their attacks to create a Multi-Color Drill (Feel the color of the Rainbow in Drill Form!) and defeated Shukuri.

The girls then gave Mariko the newly Swam Cream Puffs which she enjoyed it. The final scene has the three girls finally cross path with Kotozume Yukari for the first time...

Overall, it is a good character development for the three girls although they took almost the whole first act to make the cream puffs which I hope this is not a recurring moment as it might be fun to see the girls making their recipe once or twice but I hope more could be focus on the characters inner psyche and the main plot which I hope once Yukari and Akira joined, the real story can truly begin.

With Yukari joining the team next episode, I hope we get to see how she fit in with the rest of her juniors as based on the preview, she seem to be Miss Perfect with a cool flair.. Can she accept Ichika, Himari and Aoi since they are full of flaws? See you in the next post for the outcome!

P.S: The new trailer for Precure Stars came out after the episode ended. It looked nice seeing it is switched from traditional cell art work to CG art work was pretty good. Kana Asami as the movie character, Sakura was sweet but it was seeing Go Princess Team (Awesome Cheer) and Maho Tsukai (Small Cheer) back in action that make it awesome.

Kira Kira Precure Ala Mode Ep 3: Blue Sky Lion!

Kira Kira to you! This is my review of Kira Kira Precure episode 3 and let's see Tategami Aoi become the Wild Cure of the team!

Ichika and Himari watched a band performance by Aoi and her band at the park and Ichika was impressed by it. Later Aoi even chased off two high school students who bullied the two girls at the Ice cream stand which make Ichika like Aoi more.

However Aoi is having mental block on writing the perfect song for the upcoming band contest as she want to impress her idol-Misaki who will be one of the judges. Ichika tried to help her however Aoi is not getting any inspiration after several tries.

Later, Ichika and Aoi were looking up at the sky and Ichika started pointing clouds that resemble shortcake and puddings. Aoi then tried to remember something from her childhood that make her enjoy music although she did claimed the sky is really blue.

With that idea, Ichika and Arisa decided to create an Ice cream inspired by Aoi. On the day of the contest, the two girls presented Aoi with the Blue Sky Lion Ice Cream and with one bite, Aoi immediately knew what to perform in the contest.

However before Aoi could perform, a new general, Hotto who has been going around eating all the Ice Cream in town started attacking the park. Ichika and Arisa immediately transformed but Hotto who emitted heat from his body weaken the girls' binds attacks.

The more I looked at her transformation, it reminds me of one of the characters from Show by Rock series...

Hotto was preparing to eat Aoi's Ice cream when she went to protect it. Her passion actually create the new Blue Ice Lion Sweet and Aoi transformed to Cure Gelato!

Cure Gelato tried to punch Hotto's body but it was too soft. She immediately create ice gloves and punched Hotto harder to weaken him. The three girls then combined their attacks and defeated Hotto.

After the battle, Aoi continue her performance which attracted back the audiences including Misaki who was impressed by her singing...

Compared to the last two episodes, Aoi's story is different since the Ice Cream act more of a cataylst rather than the main focus of the story. Aoi loved music after seeing a performance by her Idol, Misaki which probably why she choose Rock music as her style of performance. Of course, the pressure of creating the perfect song for the contest also caught Aoi and it almost reach the breaking point however thanks to Ichika and Arisa making the Blue Sky Lion Ice Cream, Aoi was able to rekindle her love for music as a child and gave a satisfied performance for Misaki.

(It will be interesting if Toei make Misaki a recurring character or possible Cure or Supporter since she has an interesting flare from her)

Cure Gelato was pretty fun since we finally get some physical attacks after two episodes. If the generals for this season has soft bodies, it actually make sense not to use physical attacks since every attack will be rendered useless. Although it was quick thinking by Cure Gelato to create Freeze gloves to punch Hotto and in the process, gave him a brain freeze. Since Cure Gelato is based on a Lion, her roars actually stunned Hotto to gave the girls a fighting chance.

Cure Gelato is probably the 2nd Cure to have the worst hair look after Cure Mint. I can understand her hair is based on a Lion's mane but then her character is so wild, it actually make sense to have her hairdo very loud and big. I am really thinking some fan arts of her with Cure Beat since they are both inspired by rock music which I am pretty sure will pop up soon. Her transformation is pretty nice and fresh (if I will to describe it in one word) that I believe a lot of viewers is starting to like it too.

Overall, a fun episode that has nothing to do with making a recipe but rather the unnecessary pressure to impress someone in the case of Aoi. If Kira Kira continue to have such episodes, I can forgive what happened to Maho Tsukai.

Anyway, the next episode is a stand alone episode for the three girls with Cream Puffs as the theme. (Cure Macaron/Yukari will probably make her appearance the week after) Until then, see you in the next post!
