Marvel Disk Wars Avengers Full Series Review and Final Thoughts (Minor Spoliers)

Hi everyone! I have been very busy lately so I don't have time to review shows like Dog Days Season 3, Cinderella Girls and even Marvel Disk Wars Avengers due to my personal work life. I don't even have time to go through all the Spring shows that are out already. (Hopefully I can go through them eventually)

Anyway, here is my final review and thoughts of Marvel Disk Wars Avengers that ended last March.

If you are still living under a rock all these while, here is a short summary of the show-Tony Stark/Iron Man has created a new device named DISK that is able to hold any objects including humans for an indefinite period of time. He worked with Professor Akatsuki Nozomu from Japan and he invited his two sons, Akira and Hikaru to America to witness the unraveling of DISK. However Loki has send a lackey, Tim to steal the device and released many of the Super Villans from their prison.

In the chaos, the Avengers and many of the Marvel Super Heroes were captured into the DISK. But thanks to Spiderman, he managed to recover five of the disks and Akira, Hikaru and three more kids-Chris, Ed and Jessica were given the power to use the DISK. So the search begin to find the missing heroes and villains all over the world...

I love both Marvel and DC comics in general and I always look forward to how different interpretation of both heroes and villains will be from a different writer and artist will do. So when Toei animation and Marvel Comics team up to do this show, I was thinking will it have the same feel from the Madhouse's Marvel series?

But after reading the plot, it is clearly a show for kids and some might claimed it is ripping off Digimon and Pokemon. However instead of just focusing on the five main Avengers-Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk and Wasp (Not Black Widow) Toei was allowed to use any characters from the Marvel Universe (Except for the Fantastic Four which is odd) and they really brought on some B-list and even C-list characters into the series.

The show also doesn't take itself too seriously and the kids are not stupid to know what is right and wrong (Except for Akira) which I really dislike him despite being the series leading kid. But there is a reason why it was done this way. Iron Man is the smart ass show off like his movie counterpart and a bit of hot head which played with Akira's curious nature and playfulness. On many occasions, they couldn't get along but once they do, their partnership was great. Furthermore, Tony actually felt responsible for causing Akira and Hikaru to loss their father not once but twice! So in a way, he is making up to the two brothers like a surrogate father.

Hikaru is the overprotective older brother which mirror Thor's issues with Loki for having an irresponsible sibling. Chris and Captain America couldn't get along at first due to Cap fearing of losing another partner like Bucky but in the end, they came to a compromise and several occasions, Chris actually save Cap's life. Ed and Hulk are the odd couple however Hulk see a bit of his alter ego on Ed since he is such a weakling but in the end, they came out to be the best partners among the five kids. Jessica and Wasp are two peas of a kind so not much to say about them.

The best part of the show are the episodes when Akira and Iron Man are not the focus of the episodes. Seriously, Akira was annoying at hell and keep shouting Tony's name every time he is in trouble. Iron Man himself is arrogant, cocky and sometime get ahead of himself. The only time he is good is when he is quietly building some device in his lab and Pepper keeping a lash on him.

Only in this universe where the Mandrain and Silver Samurai actually come and bail Iron Man's ass!

I am seeing that Marvel and Toei also agreed on some terms when doing the episodes. Like when Guardians of the Galaxy the movie was aired in Japan, the show actually introduced them in a two parter and together with the Avengers, they battled Ronan the Accuser and Fin Fang Foom. People complained that the Avengers never worked with the X-Men in the America series but here they did and Magneto was a bad ass smashing Sentinels Robots like paper. They even did their version of Age of Ultron with Hank Pym saving the day. (Yes, it is Hank Pym not Tony who created Ultron for all you newbies!)

Rocket looked cute!

Spidey and Blade working together? Make that a Movie!

Even Blade and Deadpool who are considered Anti heroes appeared and they were a lot of fun. Blade was killing vampires like a bad ass and Deadpool bring in his signature Fourth Wall jokes into the episode. Spidey was also awesome for the first arc of the series which he helped the kids in getting the Avengers together and we even had a Venom episode (Although it is actually Hulk who got possessed by the Symboite) Even future Marvel movie characters like Dr Strange, Black Partner, Iron Fist and Luke Cage were promoted in the show and they were a lot of fun.

The main villains were Loki and his cronies-The Celebrity Five who are a group of people who can called out villains to do their biding. Of course, we had villains like MODOK, Green Goblin, Baron Zemo and they even have Destroyers (which I find them to be pretty weak compared to the movies) Even Red Skull and Crossbones also appeared in the second arc and they make up to pretty good villains and the team up of all the heroes battling them was epic!

But the show also suffered some flaws especially the graphic department. Toei is not really the best in doing long term shows and you can tell some of the characters actually look horrible and action scenes was kept to a minimum for some episodes. Some of the characters also looked funny like Captain America looked like Mega Man Star Force, Iron Fist is a Red Indian Chief, Black Widow looked like a Barbie doll. The weblines in Spidey's costume were circular instead of curves and the Lizard looked like Lizard man from Soul Caliber.

The final arc which is Loki mind controlling Nozomu into becoming Ronin and in cahoots with Dormammu was pretty typical Super Villains plot. Loki double cross Dormammu to gain his powers which you can see it a mile away and he went totally insane on the heroes. But of course thanks to the power of Friendship, Teamwork and the usual Anime yelling, the heroes saved the day with Loki trapped in a DISK for the rest of his life. (Hahaha!)

Overall, the show is a pretty good one if you get over the usual anime moments and accept it as a retelling of the Marvel Universe in anime form, you will enjoy it. Especially when the characters don't behave like idiots like those from Avengers Assemble which I really dislike it. The whole show is full of Fanservice and if Toei wanted to make a sequel (provided the sales of the DISK toys are good which I doubt it) make more heroes and villains and please don't make Loki as the Big Bad since he is really overrated at this point.

The Power of Friendship, Teamwork and Anime Cliques!

Final Verdict: Good for your collection. Just watch the best episodes and you will be fine!

First Impressions-R-15, Nekogami Yaoyorozu, Baka Test S2, Itsuki Tenma no Kuro Usagi, Manyu Hiken Chou, Crossie Ep 2, Sacred Seven Ep 2, Blade Ep 2 and Ro-Kyu-Bo Ep 2

Okay, here are some of the new shows and how is what I think about it.
This might give you some inspirations!

R-15: Akutagawa Taketo is a genius in writing porn novels which his old school despise him. In this new school which everyone is a prodigy of soft, Taketo still could not get rid of his habits of porn delusions among his classmates. Daydreaming of a teacher/student sex to the school camera girl being stripped by a pervert cameraman, I like the delusions but don't expect Taketo to react like his porn characters as he is quite the naive kid who couldn't talk with Fukune Nakahara which he is suppose to interview her for the school paper. However the only delusions that he have for Fukune is writing her as a magical girl character. First episode is all right but I like the delusions.

I am not sure of the game but the sound effects is from Mickey Mouse's Castle of Illusion.

Nekogami Yaoyorozu: Mayu is a Cat god who is banished to live with humans apparently a girl named Yuzu who owned an antique shop. Mayu spend the days playing retro game consoles and when a god of poverty named Shamo supposedly spreading bad luck is in town, Mayu and her deity friends spring to action. However Yuzu took in Shamo, she treat her well and Yuzu reprimanded Mayu that they shouldn't treat Shamo as an outcast. The ending ended with Yuzu and Mayu received a "large" parcel outside their house. Some funny moments and the video game consoles Mayu are apparently real game consoles like Mega Drive and Dreamcast.

Baka Test 2: Just the gang going to the beach with Akihisa and Yuji trying their luck in wooing girls. However it back fire with the girls punishing them at the end. It's all right for a season opener however I won't be following it till it is complete which is three months later.

Can I kick you like a ball?

Itsuki Tenma no Kuro Usagi: If you remember Zombie Desu Ka, our male lead is a zombie so in this story, our male lead, Taito was bitten by a vampire girl as a boy which give him self-healing powers and decapting him doesn't work as he is still alive after being run over by a truck. Furthermore, the end of the episode show the vampire girl being stabbed by the head of the student council with no explanation. So I probably have to watch the next one to figure out why.

Bonus Points: Large Enhancement!

Manyu Hiken Chou: I did said before that I will give this show another chance after reading the manga. But now I decide not to give it another chance as the censoring of breasts is really unwatchable! Some scene where their clothes covering their large breasts are also given the "ray of light" treatment which make it unbearable. Furthermore, having large breasts as a sign of wealth is really scary as some of them are like overgrown melons. Our heroine, Mayu also has the power to absorb the essence of her opponent's breasts (her elder sister is her first victim) and causing her to turn from a C-Cup to G-Cup! If you can bear the ray of light, fine with me but I rather wait for the DVD version of it.

Crossie Ep 2: Yune eating cheese, cute. Yune drinking coffee, funny. Yune going shopping with Claude, fun. Yune eating french loaf, sweet! Yune eating sour plums, remind me of how I eat sour plums. This show is getting to me with all the small things in life even though it is France 200 years ago. Recommended!

Sacred Seven Ep 2: Arma learned about Ruri's agenda of her sister being petrified by a Darkstone and learning about the Sacred Seven which are supposedly alien technology and it affected organic and non-organic life form differently. So when a magnetic sandstorm created by a Darkstone, Arma nearly chicken out due to his inexperience of sky diving but when Ruri jump out of the plane, he saved her and got himself a flying hover board! Though the only thing suck was the enemy died with one hit...Lame!

Blade Ep 2: From Yokohama to Osaka, Blade investigate missing foreign girls kidnapped by Vampires. He crossed path with a tough detective, Sakomizu and together they learned that Existence has humans working for them to supply them with fresh blood. They battled vampire Yakuza and vampire cats (?) and a supposedly Japanese vampire-Suiko. Makoto is still stubborn after Blade killed her father and is obsessed with revenge. Despite the silly plot, I still like it and next episode is a flashback to a younger Blade as he learn how to be a vampire hunter.

Ro-Kyu-Bo Ep 2: Subaru learn about the reason of why the girls want to learn basketball which I find it is a bit sexist. The boys' basketball male coach has a wager with Subaru's aunt over the use of the court, claiming the girls are weak at the sport. Tomoka got some personal lessons with Subaru and found her to be extremely talented but has issues of being competitive. He finally gave in to teach the girls permanently after Tomoka touch him with her tears. (Danger! Loli Alert!)

First Impressions-Ro-Kyu-Bu, Blood C and Blade

Opps! Wrong Club!
Ro-Kyu-Bu: Hasegawa Subaru was asked by his aunt to coach her basketball team which are made up of five cute, elementary girls. He found a talent on Tomoka who can do the jump shot like an angel (See opening) The other four girls are quite all right who are your regular cliches in a sport anime-The active one, the intellect one, the big person but a heart of a chicken and the totally clueless.
"I love my mother by Hasegawa Subaru"

Especially if your mother is Noto Mamiko!

What is more surprising is Subaru's aunt looks like a little brat while his mother is a lovely lady! This boy has some real issues with his family and school life. Overall, the comedy is mild compare to Softenni but the moe factor is already on overdrive!
No, you are not seeing double!

Are you sure this thing is a vampire?

Blood C: The day of a kick-ass vampire slayer-Prayers in the morning and fell on her face while greeting dad. Singing a tune while walking to school. Has twin female friends and two cool guys as classmates. Excellent in sports. Reject date from class chairman. Slaying a demon statue which bleed blood and had a nice bath after job done. Conclusion-Hell is better than Twilight!
Samurai Sword-Best weapon against evil!

Blade: Why super villains and creatures of the night like Japan so much? Iron man has a crazed robot army, Wolverine has superhuman yakuza, X-Men battle mutant cult and now Deacon Frost want to establish a vampire organisation in Japan. America ran out of place for villians that they are forced to go to overseas?! The whole episode is like that the first ten minutes of the first movie. Man attacked by vampires, Blade kill them. Crash into party with hundred of vampires around and kill a werewolf using Himura Kenshin's skill! Doesn't feel remorse after killing a father (who got turn into a vampire) in front of his daughter. That is what I call awesome!! Conclusion-Thousands time better than Twilight!!

Summer Anime 2011 (Vampires and Idols!)

In 2 weeks time, we will begin the Summer Anime for 2011. Let's see what shows can we expect in the beginning of July Summer!

Baka to Test to Shōkanjū 2: The continuing mis-adventures of class F which is the worst class in the school and their target to be the smartest class using a video game system which can summon chibi avatars of themselves.

Blade: Marvel and Madhouse's final collaboration bring the Vampire hunter, Blade into Japan Anime. Also known as the Daywalker, Blade battle his mother's killer Deacon Frost as the vampires are forming an organisation called Existence to slay mankind.

Blood-C: In 2000, Blood the last vampire was shown to the world, making benchmarks of how vampires should be. Then in 2005, Blood+ was a retelling of Saya as she struggle to fight her vampire bloodlines. Now in this new reboot with the character designs now done by CLAMP who did Code Geass and Tsubasa Chronicles, Saya return as she battle the forces of darkness again.

Dantalian no Shoka: From the author of Asura' Cryin, come a Supernatural story of a man named Huey who inherited his grandfather's mansion and found a girl named Dalian who will lend him to the world of the Supernatural.

Ikoku Meiro no Croisée: Yuna, a young girl work in her family shop in France in this slice of life story.

Itsuka Tenma no Kuro-Usagi: From the author of Legend of Legendary Heroes, come a similar story like Rosario+Vampire where Taito, a teen who make a promise with a vampire girl years ago and completely forgot about it.

Kaitō Tenshi Twin Angel: Based on the Pachicko Game system and an OVA, the twin angels, Aoi and Haruka returns to the TV screen. Together with new angel, Kurumi, what adventures await for them?

Kamisama Dolls: Kyohei ran away from his village to Tokyo and not realising that spirits known as Kukuri who used alien like vessels which his village worship as deities has follow him to the city.

Kami-sama no Memo-chō: Narumi became an assistant to a female private detective named Alice who happened to be a NEET and a hikikomori (a person who shut himself from the real world and obsessed with certain topics like eg: anime.)

Manyū Hiken-chō: Based on the manga of the same name, the story took place in 17th century Japan. The heroine, Chifusa Manyu is a ninja who used boobs to battle her enemies (I am not kidding!)

Mayo Chiki: Kinjiro attended a school for rich kids and was annoyed by his wealthy classmate, Kanade who has a butler, Konoe that attend to her. But then Kinjiro found out that Konoe is actually a girl in disguise for reasons of her own!

MonHun Nikki Girigiri Airū-mura G: From the Monster Hunter Series, come Airu, a feline monster in it own series.

Morita-san wa Mukuchi: In this slice of life story, Mayu the protagonist can only communicate through anime expressions. Her dialogue is done by her fellow classmates who supplement her thoughts.

Natsume Yūjin-Chō San: The third season of Natsume's adventures with the spirit worlds as he tried to return their names back to the spirits which has been cursed by his grandmother.

Nekogami Yaoyorozu: Yuzu works in an antique shop which local deities come in and out of the shop. One of them is called Mayu who is a cat god who spend all day playing.

No.6: Set in the year 2013, No.6 is the name of a model city where Sion was modelled to be an elite of the city. He saved the life of a boy named Nezumi who changed his life forever.

Nurarihyon no Mago: Sennen Makyō: The sequel to the first one which Nura continued to fight his destiny of becoming the leader of his demon clan.

Nyanpire The Animation: The comic adventures of Nyantenshi and her friends in this cute, sugar and gotic style anime.

R-15: Taketo is a high school student with a secret. He is actually a porn novelist and when he enrolled to a new school, you can be sure that things are not going to be easy on him!

Ro-Kyu-Bu: High schooler Subaru want to join his school's basketball club but found out that the coach was fired for being a lolicon. He took upon himself to train five elementary girls in this light hearted and slightly 'dangerous' story!

Sacred Seven: From Sunrise, come the story of Alma who is a loner his whole life. When he was invited by to join a club who devoted to Ores, Minerals and Crystals, the CEO of a wealthy company, Ruri told him he has the power of 'Sacred Seven' which grant him Superhuman powers!

The IDOLMASTER: From the hit popular video game, this time the idols are here to sing and dance in your TV screen. With a plot which is similar to America's next top model, get ready to bitch your way to the top as the Idolmaster!

Usagi Drop: Daikichi, a bachelor adopted his late grandfather's illegitimate young daughter and began this unusual story of two very different people staying together.

Uta no Prince-sama— Maji Love 1000%: Like Idolmaster but instead of cute girls, we have cool and hot guys as Idols! Haruka who attend an arts school found out that she is surrounded by hot guys who want to be Idols!

Yuruyuri: Like what the title say, it is about the 'friendship' of 4 school girls who formed a club known as 'Gokuraku Bu' or Paradise Club.

So what I think of this summer's series? Baka Season 2 looks okay through I enjoy the OVA more than the series. Blade and Blood C- are bad ass vampire slaying shows which is fine wih me. Blade is voiced by Ohtsuka Aiko AKA Solid Snake while Saya is voiced by the ever wonderful Nana Mizuki!

I read the first volume of Manyu Hiken and wasn't into it but now seeing that Kotobuki Minako is playing Manyu with Toyosaki Aki and Noto Mamiko as the supporting cast should give me a second chance. I haven't watch the first season of Nurarihyon no Mago which I might give it a try if time permits.

R-15 look kind of silly which reminds me of an old hentai series-Darling which used a similar idea to this. Sacred Seven looks cool, given Sunrise has been recently doing shows which doesn't involve mecha (Gundam) and with a male protagonist is a good choice after all the 'Moe' shows that has been flooding every season.

The rest of the shows will be a 'watch three episode then decide'. I still have my Tiger and Bunny and Hidan No Aria which is still on going. So what will be your pick coming this July?

P.S. Thanks everyone for hitting the 10000 views marks!

First Impressions: Ao no Exorcist, The World God only Knows II, Aria the Scarlet Ammo, Dog Days, Tiger & Bunny, X-Men Ep 3

All you need is a blue spanders with the number Four on it!

Ao no Exorcist: The opening scene is something of the Exorcist. Priests' eyes bleeding and burning in blue flame. The only thing missing is a crazed possessed girl who can climb on walls and walk backwards. Okumaru Rin the male lead seem to get into trouble, from punching some punks who torture some pigeons to nearly bringing the supermarket into a disaster zone. Of course, his problems got worse when he saw strange black creatures and a monkey face goblin running around the city without no one else noticing.

Rin was nearly killed by the same punks when he burst out in blue flame and a possessed punk claimed he is the son of the Satan. Even his guardian, Father Fujimoto said he is the Devil's bastard son in a cool tone. Overall, it is a good start and guess what? No Main Female leads in the whole episode!

This scene is really Illegal!
The World God Only Knows II Ep 1 & 2: Yes, Kaima and Elsie returns and their first target in this season, a beautiful martial arts expert named Kasuga who has a weakness of cuteness that it spawn a doppelganger. Of course, you know the drill if you watch the first season, Kaima meet girl, girl ignore him, he used all sort of methods to get her attention and when she is at the weakest, bang! The First Base!

But it was fun to watch Elsie supporting Kaima and at the end of the 2nd episode credits, Haqua, the new demon girl make her appearance! I want to see that chapter where Haqua came to visit Kaima's house and play the Battleship game which Kaima win her completely!

This is how you ask a class to STFU!
Aria the Scarlet Ammo: The combo duo of Kugimiya Rie and Majima Junji returns after Toradora, playing an odd couple again. Kugimiya voiced Kanazaki H.Aria, a bad ass teen detective who used dual pistols and twin katanas while Majima voiced Tooyama Kinji, a teen detective who go into "Hysteria Mode" each time his horomes hit boiling point, literately becoming a suave super detective with superhuman abilities.

It was fun seeing Kinji getting all cool like the male lead of DNA but Aria is just Kugimiya doing what she usually do-an annoying loli who flare at anything disrespect to her. A good chance that I might review the next episode provide Aria don't get into my nerves.

I got aroused over wires and screws!
Dog Days Ep 3: It was a bit blend in the first 15 minutes with Eclair explaining the history of the war between the cats and dogs until Leon's brother kidnapped Millhiore at the end and even broadcast to the kingdom a challenge to Shinku. Though I like the scene when Ricotta got so excited over Shinku's cellphone and tried to dismantle it.

Furthermore, the battles was treated like some festival for the people like G Gundam's Gundam Fight which I am sure in the future some factions is going to break the war treaty and someone is going to get killed.

Smile! You're on Candid Camera!
Tiger & Bunny Ep 3: Tiger has to play guide for Barnaby for the camera crew the whole day and when they face a bomb situation in the newly built tower, Tiger and Barnaby are really good at what they do. Tiger knew where the bomb is by using good old fashioned observation skills and Barnaby a cool cucumber, evacuating the people and trying to disarm the bomb. Though the way they got off the bomb was ridiculous however they respect each other. Hopefully we get to see some Super Villains and is that piano girl, Pepsi Girl?

Nice pair of Melons!
X-Men Ep 3: One word to describe this Episode. Emma Frost's Big Melons! Despite the X-Men unable to trust as she was part of the Inner Circle who are responsible for Jean's death. But I like how Cyclops go full power against one of the U-Men with help from Beast. Hisako's mutant powers was cool through it nearly kill everyone. However Emma and Cyclops saved her and I am happy that they are going back to America. If they can kill off that U-Men who seemingly still alive...

It is the third week for the new season and there are a lot of new shows which I like it. I am starting a poll for which anime you want me to blog. The top two shows will be reviewed on a regular basic. Hope you can support me and see your favourite shows being reviewed.
