Cure Up! Rapapa! This is my review of Maho Tsukai Precure Episode 31 Review and the girls are trapped in Limbo after Mr Genie set a trap for them!
You know Precure getting a new power up is usually a two to three parter arc in most of the seasons. The plot to getting the new power is kinda of uphill since it usually involved taking on a powerful enemy or overcoming their weakness to get it. This episode is not one of them.
The premises is so straight forward that it is laughable. Mr Genie detached the train carriage where the girls are. (which oddly enough, no one else was in the train or why didn't the front train even notice it is missing a carriage)
Mr Genie became a more larger version of himself and treated the girls like files during the battle. I do realise now that the Linkle Stones are complete useless against Mr Genie since he either destroy it or literally eat the magic which further dictate that the Linkle stones are really one of the worst items in Precure Universe.
Mr Genie then "blew" the girls away and they wandered in eternal limbo. If Cure Miracle didn't find her magic wand and shone it, this series will have ended already. The girls thinking of how they got their power and experience was not inspiring since it didn't really develop their characters at all.
The girls' new forms-Over the Rainbow Form and the new Linkle Stone-Alexandrite look good in appearance however the execution is not as it just involved the girls create a giant magic circle and fire a Rainbow Cannon. Compared to Go Princess Crystal Palace or the awesome Heartcatch Super Silloutte, it is mediocre at best.
Strangely, Mr Genie really died in this episode which make me wonder what is the point of creating a villian when his presence didn't do much to affect the story? So we can have new villains? You know the sayings- "A hero is only good as his villains are" and "The best villains are those you can understand what their motivation are" Unfortunately, Maho Tsukai has failed in both of them so far.
Furthermore, Maho Tsukai villains are either weak or uninteresting which is why I don't feel invested when they got killed or revert to their original forms. (By the way, do you know how many times Mr Genie has fought the girls before his death? Including this episode, only three!)
Don't give me that speech that it is a kids' show because I have seen good villains in previous Precure series like Smile Precure's Joker, Doki Doki's Bel, Happiness Charge's Red and the generals and even Go Princess Precures' three generals are good and sympathetic since you know where they are coming from and their motivations behind it.
Overall, it is not a good episode in general for a power up episode. The only thing I like is the Over the Rainbow outfit which include a large witch hat and cape which looked great on them. The rest of the episode not so much. Oh yeah, the Linkle stones just turned to the decors from Smile Precure...
Next week, it is Kotoha's first day at school and she took the whole school by storm because of her unnatural abilities. However the new villains, Shakinsu and Benigyo begin to make their move to attack the girls. Until then, see you in the next post!
As much as I hate to admit it, but I have to say this is a bad power up episode. For starters the genie didn't really feel powerful until this episode. I don't why he decided to be serious now, cause plot I suppose.
ReplyDeleteThe power up item doesn't feel like they earned it, rather it just appeared, again cause of the plot. I want to say cause the series is light hearted so that is why but then I remembered, Smile is also very light hearted, and that series has a better power up episode, much better.
Before GPP; I have seen Smile, Heartcatch, and Happiness. Those shows are more bearable than this one. I have no problem watching shoujo, but this is sad.
