Long story short if you don't want to play the games-After Asuka and Homura defeated the evil headmaster of Hebi school, Homura and her comrades became runaway shinobi and living on odd jobs to survive. A new rival school called Gessen school which Yumi and her friends clashed with Asuka and her friends. Meanwhile the reformed Hebi school has a new shinobi team led by Miyabi and her new allies. The four factions clashed and became friends/rivals after a long battle.
This new series is probably based on the card battle games that introduced the Youma arc and how the four factions will have to join forces to defeat this new threat...
Our story begins on Christmas Eve where Asuka was doing last minute Christmas shopping and met Yumi in the street. Asuka need to get a costume cat's ears which Yumi brought her to the shop.

As the two girls enjoyed their time together, the rest of the factions were also enjoying the Christmas eve. However Asuka's friends-Ikaruga, Katsuragi, Yagyu and Hibari were ambushed by two female ninjas who wore the Gessen school uniform.
After Asuka and Yumi searched for Asuka's cat ears (Which she dropped the present earlier), Asuka encountered the two Gessen girls who introduced themselves as Gekkou and Senkou and attacked her. The two girls claimed her "Justice" was very naive and even showed off a bloody ribbon which belonged to Hibari.
Asuka was filled with rage and but was completely outmatched by the two girls. As Yumi was still searching for Asuka, her body was battered in blood in the snow...
What a "bloody" start to this series and it looked like it is going to be serious for this new series after the previous more light hearted season. (But then, the previous season is more of an introduction and their initial training) As I said before, if you only watch the previous season and didn't play the newer games, you will be completely lost what is going on.
I am actually happy that Yumi and Miyabi's team were introduced to the mix (I know there was a One-off special episode based on the beach episode) but Yumi is probably my favourite together with Ikaruga and Ryobi.
The girls were also enjoying this temporary peace as from Asuka's conversation with Yumi, they are fighting the Youma forces for a while but seeing a new report of a giant crater in a small island which oddly named Ghost World Island, you know it will play an important role in future episodes.
Seeing how Gekkou and Senkou totally destroyed Asuka and her friends showed how tough and serious this season is although I wonder will the other 3 remaining factions be able to stand up against these mysterious group including a hooded figure who bump into Yumi at the end of the episode.
Overall, a great start to this new series! Can't wait to see what happen next! (Don't worry, Asuka and her friends have heroes' shields so they will live to fight another day!) Until then, see you in the next post!
