First Impressions: Shingeki no Kyojin Ep 1, Mushibugyo Ep 1, Suisei no Gargantia Ep 1, Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san Ep 1, Zettai Bouei Leviatan Ep 1, Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W Ep 1, Oreimo S2 Ep 1, Space Battleship Yamato 2199 Ep 1

Shingeki no Kyojin Ep 1: Giant humanoid creatures known as Titans attack mankind, forcing humans to live behind huge walls for protection. A Century passed with no future attacks but when a giant Titan broke through the wall, the survival for humanity begins.

Eren, his adopted sister, Mikasa and best friend, Armin led a normal life until the attack begins. Eren could not do anything and witness his mother eaten by a Titan and swore to kill all of them...

One of the most anticipated series this season which instead of dealing with packs of zombies, we have giant human like creatures who destroy and eat anything on sight. I read a bit of the manga to understand further and it is pretty much like a B-grade monster movie. Eren and his friends will grow up to join the extermination of the Titans but I wouldn't know how much the anime will adapt since it is still ongoing and it is confirmed to run for two seasons. Pretty graphic for a first episode so not for the weak-hearted.

Mushibugyo Ep 1: From giant humanoid, we move to giant killer insects! Mushibugyo is still in Edo Japan and the Mushibugyo is an extermination team to kill giant insects. A young samurai, Jubei took his father's place and tried to join the Mushibugyo.

He make friend with a young waitress, Oharu and soon discovered that Edo is being constantly attacked by giant insects. Oharu was captured by a giant spider and Jubei gave chase to find her. He tried to save her but there were too many spiders. However, the Mushibugyo arrived and quickly exterminated the spiders. Jubei swore to become stronger and begin his adventure in Edo...

Compared this show with Shingeki no Kyojin is like comparing apples with oranges. Mushibugyo is more of a hot-blooded shouen show since it is shown during prime time unlike Kyojin which is shown after midnight. Some comments I read claimed the story is very crapped up and the fighting was horrible. I too read the manga for preparation (Surprisingly, I found the story more fun than Kyojin and read to it's current chapter) and hopefully it get better in future episodes.

Suisei no Gargantia Ep 1: In the far future, Humanity has ventured to the stars and is now facing a battle with an alien race known as Hideauze. Ledo is a soldier and went into battle with his mech, Machine Caliber and his AI computer, Chamber.

However the mission was a failure and Ledo got lost in a wormhole. He woke up six months later and found out people are trying to dismantle and savage his mech. Ledo sneak out of the cockpit at night but was spotted. He took hostage a girl named Amy and later discovered he has landed on the planet Earth which is only a myth to him...

Another fish-out-of-water story which Ledo is trying to find out what is going on and whether he can go back to his own time. So far, the episode is decent which the only plus point is the hot red hair Savager, Bellows which I am got turned on by her.

Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san Ep 1: Literartly a fish-out-of water comedy about a mermaid, Muromi who got caught by a young teen, Takuro. However Muromi is not your standard, sweet mermaid but  a lazy, sarcastic and good-for-nothing. Not much to say unless you like to be humor for 12 minutes which is how long each episode is, you are better off watching something more productive.

Zettai Bouei Leviatan Ep 1: A water user, Leviatan trained everyday and hoping for news about her missing brother. A fairy named Syrup asked her to investigate the mysterious creatures that keep appearing in the forest.

Before they could do anything, Syrup offended a gang of ruffians and ended up having a bar fight together with two people, Bahumat and Jormungadr. Eventually, the four of them formed a party and begin their adventures...

If it wasn't for the seiyuu cast that consists of Hanazawa Kana, Hayami Saori, Kitamura Eri and Taketatsu Ayana, I am giving a miss for this show as the story isn't really interesting. Not much to say about this series...

Kamen Rider Wizard!?

Ore Shura!

The banner behind is a reference to Kamen Rider Double's movie

Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W Ep 1: Nyaruko is still constantly trying to win Mahiro's heart while evading Kuko's lesbian advances and Hasuta's BL. The show is filled with so many toku parodies and references that I couldn't stop giggling and laughing about it. Great start for a second season and bring in more anime and toku references!

Akihabara! I HAVE RETURNED!

Oreimo S2 Ep 1: Kirino returned from America after the events in the OVA series. However she still treat Kyosuke coldly. Kyosuke has his own problems as he is getting mixed signals from Kuroneko after she kissed him a few weeks back.

How much do you think all these cost?

During the weekend, Kirino dragged Kyosuke to Akihabara and went on a crazy shopping spree! Although she didn't say it, she gave Kyosuke a Hentai game to play as a form of thanks...

If you are unsure what is going on in this first episode, I suggest you watch the OVA series which detailed Kyosuke's relationship with Kuroneko and convincing Kirino to come back to Japan. Kirino's Akihabara trip remind me of my own trips as I also went fan-boy over the amount of games and merchandises and I wish I have her bank account as the amount of things she bought is like more than a million yen...

Space Battleship Yamato 2199 Ep 1: The Earth is in a losing battle with the Gamilus Armada. Led by Captain Okita, they distract the Gamilus as a secret alien message is recovered by pilot Kodai and Shima.

The message is co-ordinates of the planet Iskandar which claimed have the abilities to rid the radiation on Earth. Kodai and Shima sortie when a Gamilus scout ship was sighted. However they got shot down and found the remains of an old battleship-Yamato...

I loved the original series and the follow-up seasons of Yamato. So when 2199 is released on blu-ray last year, it was awesome with updated animation and a faster pacing. Although the character designs is different but is necessary for modern viewers. If you can't wait to see the next episode, you can watch the blu-ray which is releasing the fifth volume which consists of episode 15 to 18 this May.
